I've been receiving letters from Debt Recovery Solutions claiming that I owe Verizon Southwest $292.69 for cable/cellular service. I don't even use Verizon for cable/cell, only internet and I've never missed a bill. And the account number they referenced is not even mine. Worst of all they reported this as a deliquent account and is negatively affecting my credit score, lowering it by almost 100 points. Anyone experienced this before? Do I need to get a lawyer to resolve this?
What you're describing sounds like an all-too-typical phishing expedition.
Have you tried calling Verizon customer service directly to see if they have any record of your name being associated with that account number?
Have you looked at your credit rating via one of the reputable reporting agencies?
This is a peer-to-peer forum and I'm just another Verizon user, but if I got a letter like that those are the steps I'd take before I'd (likely) toss those letters in the trash.
Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe". Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.
We have not heard back from you about this, if you have any other questions please open a new thread.
