Internet speed all messed up

Hi

I have DSL 7-15mbps.  It was originally averaging around 9-10mbps when doing speedtest.net when I first got it about 3 weeks ago.  Now I notice from 5pm-12am it slows down to about 1-3mbps.  I've alreay talked with Tier 1 support and they are going to send out someone to check the line, and if that's not the problem, they said it could be a faulty modem.  But, I dunno if it's a hardware issue, because I still get advertised speed at certain times....Any Thoughts?

#1 Please post your Transceiver Status from your modem.

#2 If you don't know how to get them:

a) What is the brand and model of your modem?

b) If you have a seperate router: What is the brand and model of it?

#3 Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace) will contain a hop with your IP address in it. Remove that line. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.

Did you try connecting your modem to the NID?

Sounds like overloaded edge router. Hopefully a Verizon employee spots this and helps you out in getting moved to some other gear. Otherwise, let me know and I'll direct you to someone who should be able to help you.

These stats are with the DSL modem hooked up directly to the NID.

Thanks,

I'm not sure who to talk with.  Level 1 tech isn't  doing anything for me.

I'll shoot you off to someone who should be able to see what the deal is. He might complain about the margin being low on the downstream and might suggest bumping the speed down a megabit or two in order to allow for some head-room for errors, but if he notices congestion on Verizon's end, he won't say much about the line at all. Either way, it'll get fixed.
