I pay $55/month for dsl 3-7mbps
I am very lucky when I can reach 2.5mbps. This means I can't watch youtube without buffering. Also can't use internet at all if my son is on xbox as it will freeze his game. Can I get more speed?

Hello, fellow Buffalonian!
To figure out what is going on with your connection, we need to see some Transceiver Statistics. What modem or router do you currently use?
Also, is the 2.5Mbps you currently see consistent day and night, or does it have the tendency to go much faster or slower depending on the time of day? The Buffalo market (at least up here in North Tonawanda) is starting to suffer from heavy congestion at night, depending on what equipment you're on out in the field and in the Central Office. The ERXG01 router you're attached to is the same one I connect up to, which works well enough. Buffalo has a few others but those are quite congested at night.
Are you in a FiOS area by chance?
