MI424WR router - trouble entering password to login

I am unable to properly input the password when trying to access the MI424WR Verizon router. Each keystroke I enter results in several "dots" in the password field, so the field fills up before I can enter the entire password.

I have rebooted the router to no effect and the problem exists with both Firefox and IE browsers.

The behavior you decscribe is totally normal. If you have MI424wr REV I the password should be 8 characters imprinted on a label on the router. If you have not been able to login after 5 failed attempts you may want to hold down the reset pinhole (near the on/off switch) for 15 seconds, then release it all while the unit is powered on. Then wait about 1 minute &  try to login with admin & the aftoementioned password

Note doing this reset will erase any custom settings or passwords you may have set up.

That's a security measure. (Doesn't have to make sense.)  Ignore the extra dots and carefuly enter your password. It should work. If you continue having problems, try typing your password in another place, then copy and paste it into the password field.

Thanks for this. I have a REV 4 router and there does not seem to be a password on the unit. Is there a default password if I reset?

REV 4 doesn't sound right.  MI4424WR rev level should be a letter not a number.

The default password should be on the label.  It is case sensitive, so check your caps lock key and enter carefully.

If the label doesn't show a password, try:  password, Password, password1, Password1, the router serial number.

Also make sure you are using the right username. Normally:  admin

Sorry, it's a Rev D, not a 4.

If you have successfully done the pinhole reset admin/password1

I got this here http://defaultpasswords.in/actiontec-router-default-passwords-login-username-wireless-modem but am not certain it is up to date.

if you reset the router to factory defaults the userid will be admin and you are prompted to select your own password.
