Router Return

My husband cancelled our FIOS internet in June 2016. We returned the router in the return box provided by Verizon and received a confirmation from the USPS website via the tracking number that it was delivered. There is still a charge on our account for the router and this has led to us getting letters from debt collectors. We have contacted Verizon customer service on multiple occasions, waiting at least an hour to speak to a representative each time. One of the representatives told us that she looked up our account and saw that the router was in fact returned, but she was unable to remove the charge and we'd have to work with the debt collectors. We've worked with a couple of the debt collectors who claimed they would dispute the claim with Verizon, but nothing has happened. We have sent letters and copies of the return receipt for the router with no results. The charge is still on our account and we have received yet another letter from a completely different debt collector. On top of all this, our credit is suffering from doing what we were supposed to do. This is simply ridiculous.
