Getting very discouraged lately with my dsl through verizon. I have had it for almost 2 years and never see the speeds that i am supposed to. I have tried everything to get a better connection and still can't downoad anything higher than .74k and constant buffering while on YouTube. . I ran the speed check this is what i got.
1). What speed are you supposed to have?
2). Please post your transceiver stats.
If you are on the bottom tier of DSL service (768/128) it is just about right. If you are on a higher tier, then we need to see if it is a copper pair issue, or upstream from from the DSL service. The transceiver statistics will identify what your connection to the Central Office is capable of.
In some cases, it is a house wiring issue that can fixed with some minor changes. (Whole house DSL filter and a separate line from the NIB ahead of the filter to the DSL modem).
If FiOS is offered in your neighborhood, by all means get it. With FiOS, what Verizon says your speed is, is what you get (and often a little more). It is not sensitive to the condition of the line, or the distance from the Central Office, both of which can be major issues with DSL
i have the 700kbps - 1mbps package. looked into going with fios but it is not available around here. My transceiver stats, Westell model 327w. Not sure what else you need. I tried changing the router to a different phone line hoping that would help, it hasn't at all. All i have in my house is a data line so there is no filters installed anywhere.
Try to log into the Westell at http://192.168.1.1/from any PC and then do the following, based on what you see.
1: If you see a Red and Black Verizon page with a bunch of information on it, click on the System Monitoring at the top navigation and then choose Advanced Monitors on the Left hand side Navigation. Press Yes past the prompt if any appears, and then choose Trasceiver Statistics.
2: If you see a Blue and White Westell page, select Troubleshooting, DSL, and then choose DSL/Transceiver Statistics.
Provide the Information you see there by copying and pasting it. It will contain information such as Attenuation, Margin, Power Level, and show the modem speed.
Should you be asked for a login, try the following:
admin/password
admin/password1

Your Verizon Username and Password
The information I'm asking for here will let users who help on this board see how your line is running. If the physical loop is OK, they will have to check into other things. In the past, Verizon tech support agents used to ask for this information over the phone to verify how a line was operating, even though they could probably pull it up from the equipment on their end. Lately it seems that many of the agents no longer ask for this information for whatever reason (either they cannot see it, or are not trained to do so) but it's often a great place to start when slow speeds and disconnects are occurring.
#3 If you can't log-in to the router, please post and we will go from there to try to figure out what is going on....

I am not sure if you are the OP or you are some one else, but I will continue..
#1 Did you try to connect the modem to the NID?
I point to

#2 If not, do it and recheck the Transceiver info that you just checked earlier.
sorry for any confusion with other id, i was having issues with the other account not letting me log in. I will try the nid and get back with you tomorrow.
There shouldn't be a need to try anything at the NID with those statistics unless they deteriorate from "Great" to "Bad" over a short amount of time. Your line is good for the 7.1Mbps speed, and with ADSL2+ should be able to hold 10Mbps. Since you're still at the 768kbps rates, give Verizon a call and ask them to set your line to 1Mbps/384kbps, which falls under the same package you are subscribed to. It is a free adjustment. If you're looking for more speed, it might be worthwhile to ask Verizon, while you are on the phone with them what the max speed available to your location is. 3Mbps tends to be the maximum regardless of line quality due to many lines being connected to older equipment or remotes, but if you wish to get a higher package, with or without speeds higher than 3Mbps, it's honestly up to you.
May I just remind you though, the speeds the modem reports will always be a bit faster (but not create a huge difference) than what you actually get on a Speedtest. This is simply due to ATM/PPPoE overhead that exists on a DSL network, and the overhead increases as speeds increase widening the gap a bit more in the process. Just keep this in mind when you are comparing modem speed to a speed test.
