Verizon keeps slowing me down

Verizon keeps slowing my internet down.  At one point I was getting 2.8 mbps no problem.  This was fine for several months.  Then their optimizer decides to lower me down... to 1.4 mbps.  Which is about HALF the speed i was getting.  For no apparent reason.  Of course Verizon REFUSES to do anything about it becuase they don't care about their customers.  I'm at a loss for what to do.  Getting half the speeds shouldn't be acceptable just because it's still TECHNICALLY within what they're supposed to be giving me.  There's people getting much faster internet speeds for the same price.   If I had another choice in internet provider, I'd choose them over Verizon.  But there is no alternative--unless I decide to move.
