cannot run speed test or speed optimizer

When I try to run the speed test I get a message saying running fix, please wait...     and nothing ever happens. When I try to run the optimizer I get to the point where I click on "next" and then nothing happens. I am supposed to have 20/5 speeds but when I try to watch videos on you tube in High Quality there are frequent starts and stops and if I try to watch an HD video it is like using dial up. When I run the service checkup everything comes up ok.

Also whenever I try to run the speed test and get the please wait message a little Java symbol appears in the icons at the bottom right of the screen (where the time, volume, etc is displayed).

Also I ran speed tests by other companies and received results of 15/2 which is not close to 20/5, even though I know Verizon says speeds UP TO 20/5.
