connecting iphone to dsl modem?

Hello,

I previously had Verizon Fios and was able to connect to WIFI with my Iphone. Unfortunately I now live in an area without Fios and I have a DSL connection. Can I connect to the wireless DSL modem/router with my Iphone? I think it will work but it asks for a password and I don't know where to fond that. Thanks

Are you using the router from your old FiOS install or did Verizon provide you with a new one when you were hooked up with DSL? Could you give us a model number?

can i use my dsl moderm to connect a 6753 iphone 8x8 and getting a activation code from verizon at the same contract that i have. i am a personal user, i am not a biseniss man, i just love the technology, i am disable and love fan.

Vanessa, I'm confused. Can you clarify what you're talking about for me so I can try to answer your question? What's a 6753? I know what an iPhone is but what do you mean when you say 8x8 ? What modem model did Verizon give you? Adding devices onto a connection does not modify any contact with Verizon. In fact, Verizon just doesn't care what you attach as far as devices go.

As long as your DSL modem/router provides Wi-Fi service, you should be able to connect to it using your iPhone®. If your DSL Modem/Router doesn't have Wi-Fi, you will need to add a wireless access point to your network. These are available from major retailers as well as online, and are available at pretty reasonable cost.

After that it gets a little more complicated.  You will  need to login to your router/modem (or wireless access point), to set up the name of the network,  the type of security you want on the wireless network, and password for the network. You probably do not want to run a wireless network with no encryption and password. To many opportunities for hackers, and others to use your network without your knowledge or permission.

Once you have set up the Wi-Fi network on your DSL connection, you will need to 'configure' the iPhone to match. That means you will need to tell you iPhone which  Wi-Fi network to log on to, the type of security you have selected, and the password for the Wi-Fi network. Once everything matches up, your iPhone should be good to go on your home Wi-Fi network.

Your iPhone neither knows or cares whether the Wi-Fi connection is based upon DSL or FiOS. The only thing you may notice is the difference in speed. With FiOS, generally the FiOS Internet connection is faster than Wi-Fi, so the Wi-Fi performance is the limiting factor. With DSL, the DSL connection is usually much slower than what Wi-Fi is capable of, so the DSL connection speed will be the limiting factor.

@bpress54 You shouldn't have any trouble connecting an Iphone to a wireless DSL modem. First confirm you have a wireless modem usually a model of Westell  327W, 7500, Actiontec 704, 784. The default password is the WEP key on the bottom of the modem for the first three models or the "passkey" for the Actiontec 784 model.
