I'm experiencing intermittent lag while playing the game.  Other people with east coast verizon in the game has said this too.  How can I correct this?  Guild wars team has said that only the isp can correct this.

The Spotflux VPN did solve my packet loss problem and made the game playable, but it also slowed my connection way down. I think the Spotflux servers are in California, and with me being on the east coast, it was just too far to go with the encrypted connection. My normal speeds are about 54 Mb/s down, and 64 Mb/s up. With Spotflux running, my speeds were something like 6 Mb/s and 6Mb/s ... not good.

I tried the free version of a program called WTFast. I'm not really sure what this program is doing...it seems to only effect the game connection and nothing else (my download upload speeds are normal, and my ping is normal). For both my wife's computer and for mine, though, WTFast seems to have completely solved our issues with GW2 (no more dropped packets and rubber banding)!

I'd recommend trying the free WTFast, since it seems to solve the issues without slowing your connection. I still really am not sure what the problem is...but it's nice to be able to play again.

I too am experiencing this packet loss/lag.  It is intermitent, comes and goes, started this past weekend (2/15).  No lag or latency to other services, only Guild Wars 2.  Makes me think there is some kind of packet shaping/throttling going on in the background.  Occasional packet loss to the server's IP as well.

Hopefully we get some help soon...

Also, see this:

We aren't alone.  Verizon, looking for some help with this.

Same problem here. I must have killed a Verizon CEO in WvW.

I have the issue as well. I've spent several days researching and testing, and I've been dealing with ArenaNet Tech support on the issue. What I've found is that the problem lies in the way Verizon is routing the Guild Wars 2 traffic.

Guild Wars 2 servers in the United states are located in Austin, TX. For some strange reason, east coast Verizon customers' packets are being routed to Europe and back before getting to Texas. The European datacenter (which seems to be in Sweden) is suffering from MASSIVE packet loss (90% +), so by the time our data gets back to the states, there isn't much left.

I talked to a Verizon tech on the phone, and he laughed at the idea of fixing this problem... it's obviously on a large scale. Verizon needs to stop routing east coast Guild Wars 2 traffic to Europe, and instead send it directly to Texas. Until they do, the workaround that I've discovered is to install a free VPN. By connecting through a VPN, the routing is changed enough to avoid the packet loss (although ping times are considerably higher). It makes the game playable until a real fix is implemented.

Here is a tracert I ran recently which shows the problem... this is from me to the Guild Wars 2 servers.

Notice the bolded portion...these are servers in Europe. You can see the massive packet loss associated with routing our data through there.

Note: The 100% packet loss on the ArenaNet servers (the last three hops) is actually their security. They block all of this type of packets to avoid denial of service attacks. Their servers aren't the problem...the ones in Europe are.

Verizon, Please fix this ASAP!

Bonezmcgee, check out a free VPN called Spotflux. It's super easy to install, and re-routes your GW2 packets enough to get rid of the packet loss. Not a good permanent solution, but it will at least get you playing in the meantime. As a side benefit, it obviously provides some extra security on your internet connection since it's encrypting everything.

This is likely something that will take some time for Verizon to figure out, sadly.
