STOP , there is a plan (at least in my area) that gives a $40 / month discount for fiber phone and FIOS 3/1 Mb/s service. When I switched from copper to Fiber the bill only increased but $5.00/month I now pay between 38 and 42 per month depending on # of phone calls.
You will need to ask customer service, I can not find a link to it on the site.
You can not expect the company to fully support Copper IMO for a plethora of reasons. Good luck

I'd second asking Verizon about the 3Mbps/1Mbps FiOS tier. Verizon can get in trouble for not providing working (properly) copper service to you, but with DSL not being a regulated service, it's harder to get that fixed. FiOS is honestly a network that generally works. If you don't have anything against an 8 hour battery being used for when the power's out, voice service should be a huge leap forward. Just ask for 7 digit dialing if you wish to keep it.
When you talk to Verizon about the poor voice service, make sure you are calling from another phone line. Otherwise, that eliminates some troubleshooting Verizon can do from their end.
