Recently change Westell B99 for Westell 6100G modem. Since install receiving a bleep/ping sound (through the speakers) every second when browser downloads a page.
No router connected. OS Win7 -- browsers IE9 & Google Chrome 10
Removed all sounds at Control > Hardware & Sound > Change System Sounds > Sounds > Program Events > Windows but bleep continues.

Thanks for the reminder! I recall before installing the modem I downloaded and ran Bitmeter by CodeBox to measure my sluggish DL speed. As Bitmeter was running in the background it escaped me. After opening Bitmeter and disabling auto notification at Bitmeter Auto Setting the bleeps stopped. Again thanks for your assistance, jeff3505

For example a POP3/SMTP E-mail client on your computer
#3 What software firewall is on your computer?
#4 What anti-malware program is on your computer?

1) all browsers
2) no other programs only the 2 browsers mentioned and email client, MS Outlook 2010
3 & 4) only installed virus & anti-malware program being MS Security Essentials
5 & 6) no cell or cordless phones, all landline in use and lines checked by Verizon Technician day before new modem install.
Note: this may be helpful or not: same day new modem was installed also downloaded and installed large (32) Microsoft security updates/patches. Computer is set for automatic download & install for MS security updates.

I have tried to isolate this problem by doing the following:
1) turned off modem, waited 1 min, turned modem on.
2) closed all programs, restarted computer.
3) disabled windows firewall.
4) ran virus scan
5) ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan
6) ran Windows 7 troubleshooter
The bleeps/pings persist every time the browser (s) and email client download content.
