Question about audio passthrough

This may be a dumb, or obvious, question, but bear with me.  I just got a new LG tv, and my setup is as follows:  HDMI connection between VMS4100 Fios TV One box and Onkyo receiver (cable/STB port), and HDMI connection between eARC port onTV and HDMI out on Onkyo receiver.  It's working fine - the TV is set to ARC mode and internal speaker off, and the Fios remote controls the volume.  I went into the Fios settings to make sure that there was nothing I need to do there.  Volume control is set to Fixed, which I believe is what it should be.  Audio passthrough is set on Disable.  This is what I'm trying to figure out - what would audio passthrough do in this setup, and should it be enabled?  Also, Audio Selection is set to Disable - what does that do?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Fixed is the best option when using a receiver. Audio passthrough allows the receiver to see the source audio as broadcast, whether it is stereo or surround or Dolby 5.1. When disabled, the output is determined by the Audio Format option. Audio Selection (TV input control) is the CEC option for the Fios box. Sounds like it is fine as is so I wouldn't change that.
