Cost of PPV Events - Pacquiao vs. Clottey

How can Verizon charge $59.99 for the Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight this weekend when this HBO PPV event only costs $49.99. Every other service provider, including Cablevision, Time Warner and Comcast are charging $49.99 so where does Verizon get off charging an extra $10 for this fight. The prices are already expensive yet Verizon feels the need to try to milk their customers for an additional $10. This is absolutely ridiculous.

It's $54.99 for SD and $59.99 for HD. I agree with you that Vz. should not charge +$5 over the listed price. However, don't most cable/satellite companies charge +$10 for HD fights?

I'm an avid boxing fan but I rarely order PPV fights due to exorbitant prices. There are other ways to see it and it may be shown on HBO the following week if you can wait.

As a former Cablevision customer I can tell you that Cablevision didn't charge an extra fee to order a fight in HD. Even for this fight the Cablevision cost is $49.99 whether you order in SD or HD.

I just checked DirecTV. They charge an additional $10 for HD as does Cox. It's **bleep** and at least Cablevision isn't taking advantage of customers on these events. Fios should not charge more than the retail price for PPV fights.

Cablevision is even willing to walk away from negotiations with programmers, all in the name of its customers. I would rather pay more for something like this than to have to deal with that anymore. I used to have to deal with that stuff with Comcast.
