I saw in the newspaper today that Epix a jv of Viacom et al is going live on Oct 30 with the premiere of Ironman. It says that FIOS is offering this channel. What package will this be part of and will everyone receive it?
Right now it is in the free VOD section. No details have been released as to what package(s) it might be included with or if it will be a seperately charged premium.
This was posted on the Verizon PR blog yesterday. Indicates that Epix will be a premium subscription, does not say if it might be included with current bundles or will be separate nor is a price mentioned.

Well, since IRON MAN (and other new films) have cropped 25 - 40% of the picture (as per the Free Preview), I'll be passing this channel by.
is being reported on the AVSforum that it will be 9.99. However, I know nothing about the person saying it or if that is a-la-carte pricing. If 9.99 is going to be the price that seems a little much. However, the way Verizon is going I think that may be it. I think EPIX feels that since they will have a massive VOD library with availability on the internet the price is worth it. I hope that if it is not included in any of the packages that nobody subscribes to it.
9.99 is ridiculous. No one is going to order. EPIX, the premium channel with 15 subscribers!
My buddy at Verizon just sent me a note on Epix
Epix will have a free preview from Oct. 30 to Nov 1.
Quote:
"FiOS TV customers will be able to access the epix movie channel by turning in to channel 395 in SD or 895 in HD. A FREE PREVIEW of the epix TV channel will run from Oct. 30th through Nov. 1st 2009. A FREE PREVIEW of epix VOD programming is still in effect and extended through Nov. 1st. Customers can also access the EPIX Broadband (www.epixhd.com) functionality during the free preview period."
Epix will not be available for order until Nov 2. You dont even need to bother calling becasue they will not be able to place any orders for this channel until then. However Starting Nov 2 it will be available for $9.99 per month.
What do you mean by cropping? You sure it isn't just aspect ratio differences because that movie isn't in 16:9 like your hd tv? Or are they cutting it to fill your screen like they used to for 4:3 vieweing?
I haven't had a chance to look at it, but I will this weekend, Please clarify.
For current films, they are cropping it. Example: INDIANA JONES is a widescreen 2.35:1 movie, but EPIX cropped it to 1.78:1, eliminating that pesky picture information..
If it is not part of the 35.00 a month movie package, it is not worth an extra 10.00 a month. Personally, I don't need or want movies on the internet, I would just want to view it on my TV. Seems that no one at Verizon knows what is going on, and they are launching the channel on Friday. I sincerely doubt that they will get many subscribers if not part of a package.
