It baffles me that Verizon has not developed the ability to DVR a sporting event that runs past its scheduled time to completion instead of cutting off at the scheduled end time. This happened to me multiple times during football season and now, I missed the last five minutes of the Villanova/Pittsburgh basketball game. SO SO frustrating!!!

You have the ability to set the end time later if you wish. I don't know of a DVR anywhere that will magically know if a sporting event runs long. That would require some kind of live update of the data by someone.

Guide data providers do not update their information in real time. The best you can do is pad the endings of sporting events in advance, so when they do go over, you don't miss anything.

I almost always do a manual recording. I'm a Big Time Kansas Jayhawk fan and I like to watch and record the games mostly football I learned my lesson there as it cut off 20 min of a big time football game.
Set up a manual recording anytime you have a sporting event.

To avoid something like that (the guide is OFTEN not accurate), I simply set a timer MANUALLY with enough buffer-time...

This happens a lot on follow on things too. In my case, I watch 'The Unit' at 10PM on Sundays. If the sports events earlier in the day run late on CBS, then 60 Minutes at 7PM and all follow on shows are pushed back accordingly. I have The Unit series set as 'end 1 hour after normal end time'. All the above a right, you're not going to see immediate corrections to the guide any time soon.
