So can anyone tell me what "Free with subscription" really costs? I want to watch a free on demand episode of a show and the free with subscription doublespeak has me worried. Is it really free or "free" after paying for a subscription?

If you subscribe to a channel or a package that includes that channel, then it is free.  Note channels in Free Preview may or may not give you the on-demand, it has depended on the channel provider. 

You do not have to subcribe to a seperate VOD offering.
