Functions blocked in VOD shows

Just was watching The Office on VOD - for some reason the fast forward, rewind, and pause functions are blocked. This makes no sense - especially blocking pause and fast forward. I'm sure this was done at the behest of the networks, so Verizon has gotten into the business of taking away features from customers.

The problem is twofold.  First, the providers (NBC and ABC) require that rewind be disabled and secondly that the software in the STB currently only allows disabling of all 3, not just FF.  There are rumors that they are working a way to only disable FF and leave REW and PAUSE available, but is is only rumored so take with as many grains of salt as you feel appropriate.

This is nothing new and it is at the behest of the Networks (not verizon). It is the reason you get to watch them for free (though if Comcast does buy NBC you can bet that won't last). When I was with Comcast they used to charge .99 per view to watch The Office VOD. The Networks want you to watch the commericals that is why they have the FF and skip disabled. Small price to pay to be able to watch it for free.  Though it does NOT make sense that the Rewind and Pause functions do not work.
