Our issues with video dropouts using the 7216 are both unabated and worsening.

I vented my complaints about the video dropouts via these fora during June, July, & August, more or less. That was after I had a FIOS guy over to my house maybe 7-10 times in March & April, and then he/they failed to keep subsequent scheduled visits to figure out why there were so many video dropouts.  By the end of August I was so frustrated that I decided to wait for the firmware update which one contributor said should be done by September.  Well, the dropouts are worse than ever.  With the HDMI connection they are 15-20 times per hour, and using components they are "only" 5-10 times per hour.  Tonight they are seemingly constant, so I have returned to the fora and found this message from Marsy a while ago.  I gather there still are many subscribers with major issues, and I fail to understand the apparent obliviousness of Verizon FIOS.  It literally is mind-boggling that Verizon corporate has not made -- as far as I can tell -- a public statement about the problems along with a plan to address them.

ethics,

Are you on the 1.7 level of the IMG? If not, you really should be posting in another thread, I created this one specifically for experiences with 1.7.

Having said the above, I have seen posts here and at other forums that indicate the 1.7 level does at least improve if not completely fix the problem. I have no way to know personally as I have very few if any video dropouts on my QIP6416 using HDMI, and that has been true for 4+ years.

Yes, there are certainly people who have the problem you are experiencing. Many? Maybe, maybe not. There are 2.5 million or more FiOS TV subscribers, with how many STBs total? And how many of them are having frequent dropouts? Certainly some based on the posts here at the Verizon forums and others, but most certainly not others (many, most?). One internet characteristic is that people are very quick to complain, very rarely to say how good things are.

I don't really see any need for Verizon to make some public statement about this problem, to me what they should do is fix problems like this in a more timely manner. I do not understand at all their service philiosophy concerning bugs in the IMG, they seem to have a "lets develop fixes for all the problems we think are important and put them all together in one new package and deliver it whenever we can, which may be many months." That methodology is very antiquated and not at all responsive to their customer's needs. I am just a customer like you are, but every chance I get I tell Verizon employees how bad that philosophy is and that a change is needed immediately. So far it appears to be falling on deaf ears, but I keep trying. Of course changing a philosophy and process can take a lot of time, so maybe they are doing so and we don't know it yet.

Back to the 1.7 release of the IMG. I posted earlier in this thread a tentative schedule for the rollout in Setp, Oct. and Nov. Texas and California did get 1.7 on schedule, but apparently the subsequent rollouts have been delayed. I have no idea what the problems with 1.7 may be, I have seen some info that says it is in the VOD area but who knows, and I have not yet seen any new schedule, unofficial or official.

Finally, since you have switched from HDMI to component, I don't know what else you can do yourself, other than perhaps requesting a new STB. A different STB might or might not exhibit the same problems.

Hope things get better for you.

Thanks for the information.  Didn't mean to violate any forum policy re which "board" to use.  Just searched for the issue of video dropouts and saw that IMG 1.7 postings talked about it, and I just wanted info on what might help my problem here.  I'm not very acquainted with the use of a forum or board for anything; just wanted some help.

Thank you.

I actually have a question that I don't know if anyone's mentioned yet. With this upgrade, do you know if the Episode TITLE is shown in the Guide, without having to press the Info button? Because sometimes the description is pretty vague, and it would be nice to see which episode it is without pressing Info.

There really isn't any "policy" and maybe I came on a little too strong, but I created this thread hoping to provide some useful info on the new 1.7 level. Anyway, no harm, no foul, glad you are here.

After just a quick survey of a few channels I would say the answer is unfortunately NO. It seems to show pretty  much what it did before, the name of the program and the first 50 or so characters of the description of this particular show. But no episode name.

Actually, at least for the shows I just looked at, it takes two presses of the Info button to view the episode title. And the information, which comes from a company called FYI Inc, doesn't appear to be any better. I just tuned to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Qualifying qualifying from Lowes Motor Speedway and the episode title is: "Banking 500 only from Bank of America" HUH???? And the full text reads like it is the actual race being shown rather than qualifying.

In some instances the guide has plenty of data but in many more than acceptable instances it is incorrect, incomplete, or just the "No Program Description".

Seems if the show is not a popular main stream program then your out of luck.  FYI is just horrible.  I can think of many more words to describe them because the guide data is so key to recording what you want when you have a DVR.  I'm so close to going to TiVo but I hold hope that Eric and Joe are listening and the powers at Verizon will make real and substantial changes with the guide data.

I can only see 8 channel entries in the Guide, in the past there were more.

Someone who was looking at this thread yesterday has pointed out to me that the previous level of the Guide, 1.6.2, also displays 8 entries at a time. He is still on 1.6.2 and verified that before contacting me. I of course cannot go back to see what 1.6.2 displays.

So it would appear that there is no difference in the number of channels displayed in the Guide between 1.6.2 and 1.7.

All IMG 1.7 rollouts have been delayed. Apparently, Verzion found some issues with 1.7 (or shall we call it 1.7.0).

I am on 1.7 and have no problems to report on either of my 2 HD boxes (6216 and 6200).

1 - 6216 primarily uses the component. The HDMI is connected to my AVR.

2 -  6200 is connected via HDMI to a Samsung LN22A450 with ZERO HDMI issues. Heck, I didn't have any with 1.5 or 1.6 either.

EDIT - Well, my 6216 did reboot in the middle of the day on Sunday, as I was watching Red Zone channel.. Don't know if it was 1.7 related or not.
