Motorola 7216 not seeing my external storage anymore?

I've had a WD My Book AV on my DVR for the last year and a half at least.  Today I have no DVR recordings.  I tried resetting the box and the drive and nothing.  If I select enable more storage it tells me my DVR is not compatible with external storage yet it is one of the models listed and has been working for a long time now.  Did Verizon push an update down that made my external storage inaccessible?  I can't even save anything to the local hard drive either, all my series configuration is gone too.
