STB Clock Display Freezes
birddogproblems

I have two Motorola FiOS Set Top Boxes, a standard definition model and a HD model.  The FiOS service has been operational since 2009 without any problems.  On 03/16/12, I noticed that the standard STB clock was frozen at 03:02 on a Thursday morning.

Since then I have been experiencing the same frozen clock display on both the standard definition and HD STBs when the STBs are turned off and they both display the same time.  The time display does not advance but the colon between the hours and minutes blinks.

I always turn off the STB when I am done watching the FiOS TV.  The frozen clock display always occurs on a Wednesday or Thursday morning between the hours of 03:00 and 05:00 EDT.

Currently my STB clock displays are frozen at 04:54 on Thursday, 07/12/12.

Verizon technicians replaced the standard definition STB and the fiber NIU.  Neither replacement had any affect on the problem.  I believe Verizon does not have a clue what is causing this problem.

I have been told by Verizon technical support this problem might be caused by the Emergency Alert Test that is typically performed during the early morning hours but this is speculation and has not been proved.

I suspect there are many other people (I can't believe I am the only one experiencing this problem) with the same problem but because they do not turn off the STB or do not pay attention to the display, they do not report the problem.

The clock occaisoinally stopping appears to be a known IMG1.9 'problem'.  It did not happen to Prior to the IMG1.9 firmware release, but has been a random problem since..

As a result, swapping out your boxes is unlikely to fix it.

There is a thread describing this problem in the IMG1.9 forum from about a year ago, and yes, I still see the problem, and yes it usually it is in the early hours of the morning.
