avoid one time box fee by picking up @ verizon store?

Hello,

I have not done a cable box exchange in years, and the last time I did, there was no "one time fee" of 19.99. I am already going to be shelling out $4 more per month for an HD box. If it is to cover shipping/handling costs, I understand perfectly, but that means if I physically drive to my nearest fios center then I will not have to pay the $19.99 fee?

I cannot seem to find this information anywhere, and I don't want to drive 20 miles only to find out that I have to pay the fee anyway, so was hoping a more verizon saavy person might be able to share if they know that this is true?

thanks

I turned in 3 set-top boxes in exchange for 3 adapters in person at a Verizon office and I was not charged any fees for doing so. Hence, I do not believe if you take the set-top box in and not have it picked up, you will incur any additional fees.

It is my understanding that the $20 fee is S&H for new equipment only. If you are exchanging equipment, the fee may not apply. I would talk to customer service either on the phone or through chat to see if they can clear it up for you. Also you could just call your local FiOS store and find out their policies before driving the 20 miles.
