iphone remote displays photos in landscape rather than portrait mode

Hi using a 3GS Iphone with the FIOS Remote app which works fine mainly. Trying to show photos from the phone using the app shows the photos both on the phone and the TV 90% sideways or in landscape mode rather than portrait mode. I think i tried my wife's iphone 4 and it did the same. Anything for me to check or look at?
