on demand timeout?

So Im watching a show, get 90% through, I pause the show, I hit unpause it tells me my pause has timed out, kicks me out, doesnt save my spot then doesnt let me fast forward to the spot I was before.  Is there a setting somewhere?  This is absolutely a horrid service for the money I pay.
