using a tv remote to control hd dvr

I have a Hitachi HD Plasma TV and I want to use that remote as the remote for everything.  Can I program it to control my Motorola HD DVR?  If so, how do I do so and what is the two digit code?

You would need to reference the manual that came with your TV and specifically the remote to see if it can be programmed to operate a DVR.   Does your remote have buttons for controlling a DVR or Receiver?
