Verizon installed a backup battery unit in my basement in case my landline phone dies, but I haven't had a landline phone for over five years. I've been told by Verizon agents that I really don't need the backup battery, but about a year ago, it started beeping every fifteen minutes. One agent told me to remove the battery. When that didn't work, another agent told me to reinstall the battery and push the alarm silence button. When that didn't work, another agent told me to unplug the battery and it would never beep again. When that didn't work, another agent told me the battery was dead and I would have to pay $30 to replace it, even though I don't need it. She said it was the same as changing the battery in a portable radio, but I explained I own the radio but not the Verizon equipment. When I asked if she would pay for something she didn't need, she said no but that that's the way it is.
well they are 12 dollars at amazon.com. But if you really don't want to do that, you can look at the main verizon box, there is a small jumper box, and one of them says battery alarm. all you need is to pull that jumper and that should kill the alarm.
I would take it on as a value judgement. if it was too hard for me to do or I didn't feel comfortable doing it, then I would shell out the 12 bucks for a new battery and call it a day. if I felt comfortable doing it, then I would do it myself.
Thanks. I'm not much for unplugging mysterious things, so I'll check amazon.com. But, I'm still put off by having to buy something Verizon tells me I don't need.
My backup battery was beeping so I ordered a new one.
That came on April3, on April 13 I had a service technician come to i install it.
The on-line video was of no help on changing the battery.
Almost at once the new battery started beeping.
My question is can I remove the battery with no adverse effect on
my Fios service.
Not that I am sure I can remove i t, just tired to open the case and
was not successful. I am worried that it may overheat and start a fire.
But I have no intention of ordering another battery or paying to have
a technician to come again to install it.
As far as I can tell, it won't affect your Verizon service, but the constant beeping will get on your nerves.
I have a problem with backup battery also. I did buy battery from Verizon. However, I do not know as how to open the battery compartment. It is not obvious.I callde verizon help desk and they are not very helpful. Maybe I need to unscrew, but I do not see where. Is somebody can help me as how to open battery compartment?

It depends on which ONT you have as there are several versions of it. For example on mine you just unscrew the top compartment and the battery is there. This page and video will help. http://www.verizon.com/Support/Residential/Quick-Guides/Change-Battery-%20Backup.htm
I've had the same problem with the phone battery alarm/constant beeping that has been going on for over two years now -- EVERY 15 MINUTES. Fortunately it is in my basement so not as noticable, however I cannot get it to turn off for more than a day at a time by unplugging it and replugging it in.
I've been told I need to purchase a new battery - for a sevice I don't have. I am not a residential phone subscriber so there is no need for a battery backup. I confess, I'm stubborn so I REFUSE to buy something I don't need or want. $12 -- $50 -- or $500 dollars -- it is the same to me.
Is there ANYTHING that can be done or do I just need to cancel my service?
It's reached the point that I will use the money Verizon wants me to spend for a useless battery towards a less expensive service provider as I thankfully have multiple otpions in my area for internet and tv?
