Is this box a Verizon box?  If so how do I get it removed?

Yes. If there is still working phone lines in it you can't. Utilities like electric, gas, phone have the right of way to get services to the houses. Verizon has been migrating everyone off of copper to fiber. Once that is done they might take it out.

Trying to actually talk to someone at Verizon when you don't haven an account with this is almost impossible.   I need an answer on the ticket.
