I was about to order the FiOS Quantum Gateway on their $99.99 special. Before ordering you can print a sample bill for next month which includes the $9.99 shipping and handling and the first installment for buying the router ($33.33). But I then noticed that the "Taxes, Fees and Other Verizon Charges" increased from 15.87 to 22.12, an 18.9% increase. I called Verizopon and was told I would have to send a letter to St. Petersburg. Our state tax is about 6%, or $5.99 on a 99.99 purchase. What a rip off.
All companies are required to collect applicable sales tax on purchases. There is no hidden cost, it is based on the state you live in and if Verizon has offices there.
"Taxes, Fees and Other Verizon Charges" includes a lot more than state sales tax. On my bill there are 7 different taxes and fees in that category. Also, depending on your state the communications sales tax rate may be different than the general sales tax rate. You need to look at the details to see what changed. Though the sample bill may not include a full breakdown.
I understand that. My issue understanding why, just because I am piurchasing a router, that these went up more than my sales tax. What other fees and special charges can be attached to buying a router? I am digging and finding out there shouldn't be anything here in Massachusetts.
I want the details. No one can tell me without my having to write to Boca Raton.
