I've been a customer for years and have a box that has component ports and I am wanting to swap to a box that has HDMI ports. My new tv is lacking a bit in inputs and this would allow me to connect more devices in the manner that I want. How is this done and is there any charge for this?

There might be an upgrade fee all depending on what box you upgrade to. If you go with the new media server then there most likely will be.
You can swap out boxes and see if there is any applicable upgrade fees easily by signing into your verizon account, going to add/change services under "my verizon" then going to tv equipment and outlets.
You can also go to a local fios store to swap them out. You can also do it through the box's menu itself under customer support.
By the way since you said HDMI ports. There's only 1 HDMI output and no inputs on the boxes so I hope you arent expecting more then that.

All Verizon HD STBs have a HDMI port. I don't know why you need to swap it.

This is not true. The old qip2500's did/do not have an hdmi port.

But they are not HD STBs either, SD only. And yes, as Telcogru said, all of the HD STBs do have an HDMI port.

I'm assuming the OP was talking about the SD box or the OP was just messing around.

As discussed by others.
If you have a box with no HDMI outputs, you do not have a HD box. You REALLY do want one as without it your are not seeing HD television. You can ask for one online, at a Verizon TV store, or on a phone. They will be a one time charge (perhaps waived) and probably a higher per month fee for the box. It will only have outputs, and so hopefully you have a unused HDMI input on your TV.
