Returned equipment fee

Normally, I do not come to forums like this to complain but what happened today made it IMO worthy of such. I had 3 DVR's. Decided I don't need one and am trying to cut back financially so I went to the local Verizon Plus store (and by local I mean 25 minutes away) to return it. After spending my time going and my gas to get there I'm told that if I return a equipment to the store now there's a $9.95 return fee! But if I call, get a box mailed to me to return it, that's free. So let's see if I have this right, I spend MY gas, MY time, MY energy to go return the box and there's a fee. Verizon pays postage to send shipping materials they also buy and return postage they pay for to me and that's free?! Normally, I'd say whatever and take the free option. But the reason I always return equipment at the store is when I have shipped it back there is always a problem getting it credited to my account. Even when I have the tracking # it's taken months before to get things straightened out. This fee is outrageous. I felt robbed when I left the store. There is no logical explanation I can see for charging this except "We do it because we can. Deal with it!" I'd be on my way to another provider now if I didn't have 14 more months in a contract. What next? A remote control lease fee?

There are a lot more fees and price increases on the way. Now whether people know it or not that is a whole other thing. The contract that you are in covers the packages that you have (phone, internet, tv) but that does not prevent them from raising the prices of other things such as an increase to your equipment, a regional sports fee, charging you for returning something, and of course a cancellation fee for not sticking with them until the end of the contract. Now i will not even go into what is in store next year for customers who choose to upgrade to the six tuner dvr (another price increase), the mini clients that you will need for additional rooms (another increase), the new router that is needed for it (yet another price increase), the upgrade fee and of course the installation fee to put it in your home. If you were to look at page three of your bill you will also see that there are a bunch of other price increases that are also on the way too along with some more taxes. One reason not to go with a paperless bill is because on page 3 of that bill verizon sends out to people's homes is because they now give people a heads up just in case their customers have a problem with those price increases verizon can say that customers were notified well in advance of the changes. If you are currently doing a paperless bill they can now screw you over a lot easier now where you will be kept out of the loop until you call in to see why your bill suddenly went up out of the blue. Their excuse will be that you should have paid more attention to your bill.

It's not just Verizon either. If other cable companies haven't raised the costs of certain things yet, they will.

I understand costs go up. I don't agree with some of them but I understand that to have pay TV service nowadays the costs are more than just the "programming" usually. Even cable companies are doing away with "basic" cable and having a box or some sort of adapter is becoming a requirement, not an option. But to charge me or anyone else for simply bringing the equipment to a store equipped to take it?! Even if they wanted to charge a fee for returning it to a verizon wireless store that is closer to your home, ok...a stretch but I get it. Not this.
