Verizon Smart Rewards - automatic enrollment in the future?

I heard a Verizon commercial a few minutes ago...  I could have sworn that I heard them say that even if you didn't enroll in the Smart Rewards program, you would eventually be enrolled automatically in the future.

I know that automatic enrollment isn't happening now, but are they planning on it in the future?

Specifically, the idea of being automatically enrolled in Verizon Selects is abhorrent to me.  They day they automatically enroll me is the day they lose me as a customer.
