I know how important it is to move your information over to your computer JosCline. We are always looking into finding new ways to transfer photos. The device is not compatible with Linux. You can save all your information to Verizon Cloud and then you can log into the site and download the content. I hope this alternative way helps.
Here http://spr.ly/6589D6egb is how you can back up your content. It will be under "Using Verizon Cloud" number 2.

Thank you for the information!

I am absolutely not interested in using Verizon 'Cloud', therefore I will

certainly not be switching from Samsung to Google Pixel 2! Samsung Galaxy

S5 works great with my Linux!

It seems very strange that Google would lock out the use of the Linux

operating systems, since that is what their operating systems are based

upon! VERY disappointing bit of information , glad I checked into it!!

And by the way, there is no 'Correct answer' button anywhere that I can see!

Have you tried these options?

16.04 - How to connect Android 7.1 to Ubuntu Linux with USB? - Ask Ubuntu

Connecting Google Pixel phone to Ubuntu computer

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Actually, no, I have not tried those 'options', because I do not yet have

the Pixel 2 phone! The reason I was researching this is because I was

thinking of getting a Pixel 2,

now I know NOT to get one, since it seems to be such a hassle to get it to

work nicely with other computers by way of USB, not just Linux!

My Samsung s5 works just fine with all other operating systems, I will just

keep using it indefinitely!

Thanks,

Jos

People would argue Samsung devices can be a hassle as well.  A simple search on any search engine you can find people have trouble connecting with all devices.  Sometimes it is hit or miss within the same model.

Also it isn't that hard for Linux device as it is for Samsung as they both use the same thing to work, and connectivity for USB written in Android is actually from Samsung including ADB and Fastboot last I remember been a few years.
