Here we have Verizon charging the highest charges in the industry for their cellphone service ignoring the competitive offers that I frequently get. Yet they have the audacity to charge a late fee for
a day or two late raising an already high bill even higher. Makes me want to go elsewhere ... so cheap and unfriendly.

A credit card company charges upwards to $40 for a late fee. Verizon's competitors charge the same $5 late fee. You're making this out to be a bigger deal than it really is.
