Connection to Playstation Network Times Out

I have Westell G90-610015-20 DSL Modem. I have ASUS Wireless Router RT-N12 connected to it.

My PS3 is able to connect (wirelessly) to the wireless network. I can update the firmware, and it is able to download any update for any game. However everytime I tried to login into Playstation Network, it would time out. When I do Internet Connection Test in PS3, the results for "Obtain IP Address" and "Internet Connection" are Succeeded, but for "Playstation Network" failed.

I have read some postings regarding the same issue, but found no solution.

Please advice.

Thank you in advance.

If you need a Username and Password, try the following:

admin/password

admin/password1

admin/admin

admin/admin1

admin/Serial Number.

By Serial Number, I don't mean type in the words Serial Number. I mean find and type in the serial number found on the bottom of this router.

If that does not work..

Disconnect your router from the modem, and connect a PC to your modem. Once this is set and the PC is online only though the modem, press and hold the reset button down on the back of the modem for 30 seconds. When you release the button, give the modem a few minutes to reboot and auto-configure itself. Once the modem appears to have settled down and the Internet light has lit up (after DSL goes solid), visit http://192.168.1.1/ on your PC. The modem will ask you for a new password to set (if it prompts for a password via a browser login window, use admin as the username, password as password). Set the modem's password to something you will remember, in case you need to visit it again. At this point, the modem should be holding an IP address, and indicate that it is fully connected.

From here, this part is *VERY IMPORTANT*. We need to disable the walled garden on the modem. Visit http://192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htm and log in using your username and password combination for the modem. You should then see a page that says "RESTRICTED" and you should also see a Disable button on that page. Click Disable.

From this point, verify you can reach sites such as Google.com and Yahoo.com, and you do not get redirected to a Verizon Setup page. If all goes well, do the following:

Visit http://192.168.1.1/ and click on System Monitoring. From here, choose Advanced Monitors from the left hand side navigation. Click Yes through the prompt, and then choose Transceiver Statistics. Post up the statistics displayed on the Transceiver Statistics page.

From here, you are set to reconnect your router and configure the modem as it was before we reset it.

#1 Check what the Default Gateway on your computer.

This means for example if you are on Windows XP..

a) Go to Start -> Run.

b) Type in cmd and press enter.

c) In the new window, called the command prompt, type in ipconfig /all and press enter.

#2 Go to the Default Gateway and log-in.

#3 If you are not in the ASUS RT-N1: Report back that fact.

#4 In the ASUS RT-N12 go to Advanced -> WAN -> Internet Connection.

#5 Where it says WAN Settings, that IP Address there should be the same as the IP Address that yousee at https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 just below the text that says The text below might uniquely identify you on the Internet

#6 If not, please report back that fact. Then I will tell what to do next.

#7 If you do not have at least two special computers that support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) where you can not define the ports that they use, turn off UPnP in the router.

A perfect example. At least two game consoles. Any two (Two Xboxes, two Playstations, One Xbox and one Playstation).

#8 If you have at least two special computers that support UPnP where you can not define the ports that they use: Do only use one at a time OR are there times when at least two are on?

Thank you for your response.

#1 Check what the Default Gateway on your computer.

#2 Go to the Default Gateway and log-in.

#3 If you are not in the ASUS RT-N1: Report back that fact.

Response:

I got the default gateway IP and I was able to log-in. It is my ASUS RT-N1

#4 In the ASUS RT-N12 go to Advanced -> WAN -> Internet Connection.
#5 Where it says WAN Settings, that IP Address there should be the same as the IP Address that you see at https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 just below the text that says The text below might uniquely identify you on the Internet
#6 If not, please report back that fact. Then I will tell what to do next.

Response:
The IP Address I got from the www.grc.com link is pool-{edited for privacy}.lsanca.dsl-w.verizon.net

In ASUS RT-N12, I went into Advanced Setting -> WAN -> Internet Connection, I did not find that IP Address. Currently the WAN Connection Type is Dynamic IP, and Get WAN IP Automatically is set to yes.

Response:

I set the UPnP to be disabled

Thank you so much for your time and attention. Looking forward to hearing from you about what to do next.

Ok.

I point to

If you have any questions, please ask.

After you get your modem combo into bridge mode and your ASUS RT-N12 is handling the public IP, please report back that fact and I will tell you what to do next.

I was in Westell, following the instruction from the page you linked me to, but the default login to go into Network Connection - Broadband Connection (DSL) (admin, password) would not work. I don't remember ever changing the login. I also tried my Verizon.net login just in case. It didn't work

My Westell is the black and red firmware. Is there any other default login I can try? I think there is a way to reset the modem back to default, but not sure how.

Please advice.

Thank you. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your help. I am finally able to connect to Playstation Network.

None of your suggested logins work, so I had to reset my modem. I followed your instruction until I was able to get Internet connection again through my modem.

Then I followed the instruction on http://www.dslreports.com/faq/13600 to set my modem to Bridge mode. After it was set to Bridge mode (now the Internet light on the modem doesn't light up), I connected it to my ASUS router. My PC was able to connect to the Internet wirelessly. I then went to my PS3 and did the Internet Connection Test again. This time, it was able to connect to PSN successfully.

Do I still need to post the Transceiver Statistics?

Regardless, thank you for helping me get this far. God Bless.

That is great to hear/read that. 🙂

Considering why you started this thread, no you do not.

If you are on the 3 MBps down (and I think 368 Kbps up) connection, and for example if you want to know if your connection go faster (like I believe the 7 MBps down / 368 up connection, start a new thread in the http://forums.verizon.com/t5/High-Speed-Internet-DSL-and-Dial/bd-p/High_Speed_Internet area with the answers to these questions in it...

#1 In the ASUS RT-N12 go to Advanced -> WAN -> Internet Connection.

#2 What is your type of connection? Examples, as far I know on Verizon DSL, include: DHCP, PPPoE, and Static.

#3 If you have a computer with only one NIC: That computer has a wired NIC?

#4 If you have a computer with at least two NIC(s): One of those NICs is a wired NIC?

#5 While I know your ASUS RT-N12 has a built in switch in it that is IP aware: Do you have a hub/switch that is not part a router / not IP aware?

#6 Do you have a spare RJ-45 WAN port router?

#7 What is the subnet of the ASUS RT-N12? For example your modem combo (Westell G90-610015-20), unless you changed the LAN IP, is in the 192.168.1.x subnet.

#8 Does your ASUS RT-N12 have least two free/available/unoccupied LAN port(s)?

Likewise, if you are having trouble with your DSL connection - same advise. In the DSL area, start a new thread with that reqested info.
