Desktop with USB551L modem how to connect to laptop

I have a USB551L modem connected to my Vista system Desktop. Now we also have a wifi ready laptop. What is the most economical way to connect the two. We don't leave the house with the lap top but very often want to use BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. Lap top computer is windows7.

Do you want to use FIOS or have internet access through the USB modem?

I don't want fios. The only thing I will be using is the internet connection with verizon usb modem and I want to also connect the desktop at the same time. NO CELL PHONE NO TV ETC.

jumpin68ny thank you for asking question about the fios. Basically I just want to connect to the internet and surf the web and get email. We won't be using tv, cell phone etc etc.I have the USB551L connected to my desktop. Now my husband want to also do email and surf the web on his laptop at the same time. What is an economical way to both be on the internet at the same time? Of course everything has to be compatible with verizon.  Thank you.
