I have Verizon FIOS and the Verizon MI424WR Wireless Router. Currently a network printer is connected via ethernet (cat5)cable and two notebooks connect wirelessly. I was considering purchasing an external hard drive for music and videos to get them off the notebook's hard drives. I don't need the space or capabilities of a serious network hard drive. Can I simply connect a reasonable 500gb or 1tb external hard drive with USB connection to the USB port on the wireless router? Can it then be used by both notebooks?
Will the DVR box/regular boxes also be able to view the music and videos as the DVR currently can through the Verizon Media Manager program? This will also be helpful because neither computer will need to be on to access the files?
The user guide and manual available on line seems to be a slightly different MI424WR router. Mine has a USB port and a "reset" button on the front that is not on the one listed on this website. It does say MI424WR on the front.

I believe the correct answer is:
No, you can not do that.
Since I don't know for sure, I hope some else chips in.
