To repeat what I have posted about what I have found so far with 1.9.4:

In looking through the Menu, so far I have found only a few new things and changes:

1) Menu ==> Settings ==> System Information

    Release: 1.9.4, Build Number: 16.13, Data Object Version Number: 36.13

2) Menu ==> Settings ==> Save Settings

Appears to save more than it used to, now saves DVR Series Recordings Schedule, Parental Controls, Favorites, and Guide Preferences. IMO saving the Favorites is a big, big addition! The dialog says to only use this before replacing equipment, and it says the settings will be saved in the Cloud for 30 days. I went ahead and saved my settings but have not tried to restore them (but was offered an option to restore them when I went to set up a series schedule).

3) Menu ==> Settings ==> Restore Settings

New entry I think. Have not tried it.

4) Menu ==> FiOS TV Home Page

New entry to display the Home Page. Useless IMO.

5) Menu ==> Customer Support ==> Voicemail Access Number

Marked as a new entry. I do not use Voicemail but I tried the option, it came back and said I don't have Verizon phone service, which I do, I have Digital Voice.

6) Menu ==> Customer Support ==> My Wireless Network

Displays the SSID, Passcode, and encryption method. Updated to require entry of Parental Controls PIN if one has been set (simply displays the wireless info if no PIN has been set, not good). Trouble is, the SSID and Passkey displayed are incorrect, on both DVR and 7100-P2, they bear no relation to what mine really are.

That is it for the Menu that I have found so far. There are lots of Menu options that I never use, so I have no real idea what else if anything might have been changed.

The Guide seems to show cast information now right in the main display, so it is not necessary to press Info to get it, although sometimes there is not enough space to list the full cast info or episode description. Still, better than it used to be IMO.

So far I haven't found anything new with the DVR menu, On Demand, Widgets, or Options, although again there may be some changes or additions that I just haven't noticed.

The response of the DVR to my remote seems about like it was with 1.9.1, with one exception: it seems to occasionally totally miss button presses (light on DVR never blinks). I had that problem with 1.9 originally, then an update made it a whole lot better. This seems to be a step backward. I have not noticed this problem on my 7100-P2.

That is about it for now.

It would be interesting to see if you could save favorites and restore them on another STB. It would seem silly not to have that after spending the time to add the feature to the cloud.

Perhaps I will wait until 2014 some time and see if Santa brings a Smart TV that may be able to get IP from the VMS without a STB rental. Probably not likely. But one could hope. I have a couple of TV locations that need upgrades, and my son has a new rental place that needs larger or better TVs.

He has FiOS too. I had to call the FSC to get his repair order pushed since it was only a channel provisioning issue, that gave them a service ready date three days out. The things they do to people, and they are new customers. I called from the office and it was on the account, but not configured properly, so they pushed the change out to the hardware, and I told him if it was not there when they arrived home, unplug the DVR and then plug it back into the power a minute later, and let it restart. All worked. All I needed was the mane and address on the account, they looked it up for me and fixed it. They did ask for my name. Perhaps my name is known? The account is in his girl friends name.

That is the primary purpose. The intent of course is to restore them to a replacement box. But I saved my stuff to the cloud from my 7232 DVR and restored it to my 7100-P2 STB, all appeared to work just fine. When you run the restore dialog you have to pick which saved file you want to restore, by device name (I have my DVR named "Office" so I chose that one. The STB then reboots to load the new stuff.

Should make for an easy way to replicate Favorites settings to all STBs in the house.

COOL! Replication of favorites has always been something I wanted.Thanks for that tidbit! That in itself may have made 1.9.4 worth it. That was always a pain for me. I would go somewhere else and my favorits would not be on that TV.

But now I have my own little world. Smiley Indifferent

I guess I gave up some things and gained others. Maybe next year, only the VMS, or a massive hardware failure would bring me back to Verizon hardware. Then I would need to wait until my savings pays for my hardware, which could be a matter of perspective. Early spring? Right now I get DVR service at 6 locations for $7.98.

Thanks

Mark

My STB has 4 and 5 from the original post.  I still have 1.9.1.  I think 4 & 5 are in the newest 1.9.1 build

Could be that I had them in 1.9.1 too, although I had looked for #4 within the last couple of weeks due to seeing some posts about it and didn't find it. Never looked for #5, but as I said it is marked New so assumed that meant new in 1.9.4.

YEs, these are in 1.9.1.  Isn't even part of the IMG build any more.  Just some of the changes in apps etc they can now make without sending out new IMG's.

In a previous post I listed some of the enhancements/changes that I had found in 1.9.4. One of them (#6 on my list) had to do with the Wireless Network dialog, that it displayed totally incorrect information. I just checked tonight and the dialog now displays the correct SSID and passkey. I have no idea when it was fixed, but I am very glad Verizon did fix it.

I encourage everybody with 1.9.4 to secure the wireless network dialog with a PIN, otherwise anybody who sits down in front of your TV with the remote in their hand (babysitter? friend of your son/daughter? anyone....) can find out how to access your wireless network in about 10 seconds.
