Never mind, I just saw that you can order them from the Western Digital store.
I know that Verizon has the Western Digital drives that it recommends. But they are backordered everywhere and the few places that have them (individual amazon sellers, ebay, etc) are either excessively sketchy or want to charge double the regular price.
Has anyone tried using an eSATA drive other than the Western Digital one?
Or, does anyone know of somewhere that has the Western Digital ones in stock at a reasonable price?
Will an eSATA drive work as a normal external USB drive for a computer? I almost wouldn't mind buying a cheap non-recommended one if I know that if it doesn't work with my cable box, I haven't just bought an expensive paperweight.
To answer your first question, yes other Esata drives will work and several people have done so. It should be one designed for applications such as AV and expecting to work all the time at a rate of 3gbps. esata and usb connections are totally different, although many external drives with eSata connection also have a USb connector.
