We are confused.  We have Motorola 7216 P1 and want to purchase a eSata external drive from Western Digital....will this work?  1 or 2 TB

Yes, you will have to wait for 1.9, it is the first to support the external eSATA drives.

Yes.  IMG 1.9 enables the eSATA port as well as the DVR application to work with external storage.
