- Actiontec MI424-WR Wireless-G Version D, Firmware Rev: 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.14.4
- FIOS 35/35 mb plan that frequently gets over 45mb down reported by speedtest.net when laptop is wired.
- When using laptop upstairs with Wirelss N adpater the connection status shows 24mb throughput and signal strength is 68%, which is not bad either,
- However speedtest now shows 5 Mb with WEP or WPA2 or no encryption. Tried channel 1,6,11 and auto. I am using G only (not B).
Why the sever slowdown on speedtest?
Does the router hardware and chipset matter?
If I replace the current router wth Verizon's GigE N router and 150 Mb throughput will speedtest over the air stilll show only 5 mb?
Thanks, Ian
Just noticed same thing. Speedtest history shows that I was getting 20+ download previously, but now it appears to be throttled over wifi, at around 5.
You need to check out your wireless settings and signal strength. Several others have made some suggestions to improve throughput such as wireless g only (n only on newer models).
