I upgraded from 3Mb DSL to 7Mb. The modem page (192.168.1.1) says 4906 Kbps / 847 Kbps , speed tests come up to ~3.9Mb . What's the deal ? Anything I can do about it ?

Your modem isn't synchronzed at the correct speed. If you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics, could you post up a copy of them for us to see? If not, tell us what modem make and model you have and if you have any separate routers attached to the modem if what you have is not a gateway.

It looks like your line actually will not do 7.1Mbps, unless Verizon can shorten the loop or improve the capacity of it a ton. The loop is showing to be past the two mile mark if the attenuation is a reliable indication in this case, so 4Mbps may be the best you're going to get on the sync.

If you can, see if you can connect your modem to the NID at your location. If that's not possible, you could try asking for a truck roll to see if a tech can find a way to shorten your loop or improve it, but that may either worsen the problem if a shorter route cannot be found and he attempts to clean up the line (generally doesn't happen as far as breakage goes) or result in a speed decrease to the infamous 1.5Mbps profile. Either way, it's up to what you'd like to do at this point.
