ACTIONTEC GT784WNV Question - Please help!!

I am replacing my Actiontec GT704WG with an Actiontec GT784WNV model that I ordered online from Verizon. It just arrived yesterday, and has no antennas in the back. I'm really confused because when this modem is shown online, it has two antennas in the back. However, the pictures I find online of the Verizon version of this modem seem to show it without the antennas in the back. Did they forget to pack them in the box, or is it correct that it arrived without the two antennas?

I'm also annoyed because the modem arrived with no installation paperwork, and in a plain brown box.....for all I know they could've refurbished someone elses and sent me used equiptment. When I called customer service (after a useless 45 min phone call) they had no idea about how I return it, or whether or not it arrived without the two antennas. Please help!! Thanks!

The ActionTec GT784WNVs tend to arrive like that. Just visit http://192.168.1.1/ and log in using one of the usernames and passwords, if it's not printed on the bottom of the Gateway:

admin/password

admin/admin

admin/verizon

admin/Router's Serial number (case sensitive).

Once there you can run through the Setup Wizard in the modem to get the Internet connection up and running.

Second, the router has integrated antennas. This is a newer revision unit from the one seen online. That's also why there are no antenna ports on the back of the router (they look like little coaxial ports in design). As long as you get a good signal, you should be fine.

Looking at pictures on Amazon, the GT784WN has antennas; the GT784WNV does not.  If the one you have is supposed to have antennas you should see where they screw in.

No paperwork is strange, but if you need instructions, you can download anything you need on the Verizon page which shows that router.

I just got mine yesterday and like you it came in a cardboard box with one sheet of paper telling you where to get the password and SSID.  I've managed, with no help on their part to get all my computers, 2 wired and 3 wireless to run, but for the life of me I can not get my Brother 5250 Laser Print set up to the "Gateway" as the network printer. The printer was set up on my old Westell Modem as the network printer and worked find, but the modem was dropping the connection, so it was time for a new.

Not having a manual is a pain.  I've searched both Verizon and Actiontec and can't find a manual anywhere.  Would also like to know what the button is on the front panel that glows red when it boots up, has WPS printed on it and doesn't appear to do anything when you press it.

Anybody have suggestions on how I can get my printer back to working as a network printer before this  new "Gateway" came into my life?

The WPS button doesn't do anything.  That function was disabled as a security measure.

To set up your printer you need to go to the printer's manual. The router manual won't be of any help with that. Verizon doesn't provide much help with 3rd party equipment.  The variety is to large for their customer support to keep up with.

If you don't have your printer's manual, check the manufacturer's website.  Or try a Bing search.  If you can't find it, you can try posting back here with the model number.  Maybe someone with that same printer will be able to help.

I too receive the GT784WNV with NO manual enclosed. I called Verizon and they said "What do yo want a manual for." I said, in order to set-up the modem/router. She said she didn't have any and to call Actiontec. I called Actiontec and they said the mordem/router was made for Verisonand I should call Verizon. Does anyone know where I can get a manual for this modem/.router?

Also, is there supposed to be an antenna on this unit? I don't see one enclosed.

The antenna are internal now, it's an outdated picture on the website. If you buy Actiontec model (not Verizon's) it does have the antennas on the outside. If you look at smith6612 post above that will get you through the setup. When you log into the gateway click on "quick setup" follow the steps..
