I currently have the modem/router that Verizon supplied me when I signed up for my DSL service. I'm trying to increase the signal for my multiple devices so I purchased a ASUS RT-N66U N900 router. Do I need to replace the modem/router that Verizon provided with a new modem only? If so, do I need to purchase a particular one? And will there be any reason to call Verizon technical when I make this change?
You don't say what modem you have, but I'm guessing you probably have the same one I do the 6100. I had to change the settings and basically disable the router part of it. There's instructions if you google it, basically you log in to the modem and disable the router portion, I can't remember what the default ip of the router is but you should be able to find that to by googling it but you shouldn't nesessarily need a new/different modem.
