Alarm message on speedtest analysis?

This is part of the detail report of the speedtest ran yesterday.

I am not a network engineer, so if anyone can explain this I would be grateful.

------  Web100 Detailed Analysis  ------

Client Receive Window detected at 1045440 bytes.

Cable modem/DSL/T1 link found.

Link set to Full Duplex mode

No network congestion discovered.

Good network cable(s) found

Alarm: Duplex mismatch condition found: Host set to Full and Switch set to Half duplexD

Is this a condition to be concerned about?

Thanks.

Sorry for the delay.

#1 Run a speed test.

#2 If you don't get at least 10MBps downstream, set the NIC to 10Base - Tx.

#3 If you get at least 10MBps downstream, set the NIC to 100Base - Tx.

#1 What is the brand and model of your modem?

#2 If you have a seperate router: What is the brand and model of it?

#3 If you have a switch that is not part of a router: What is the brand and model of it?

#4 What is the brand and model of your NIC?

Hello,

1.  Modem= Westell 6100

2 & 3. No separate router or switch

4.  NIC= Netgear FA310TX Fast Ethernet PCI card.

Hmmmm.  I also have an onboard NIC - NVIDIA nForce  that is not active but is newer.

Could this be the issue?

Thanks for your response.

#1 On the Windows “Start” button, select “Settings->Control Panel”

#2 In “Control Panel”, select “Network Connections”

#3 Right-click on the “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties” from the bottom of the menu:

#4 This will bring up the “Local Area Connection Properties” window.  Select “Configure”

#5 At the next window, select the “Advanced” tab,

#6 Under “Property” select “Media Type”, and you will see a value list to pick

“10 Mb, Half Duplex”,  “100 Mb, Full Duplex”, or "Auto Detect".

#7 What value is it set to?

The PC is getting old....running XP SP3.

My 'Local area connection' is linked to the onboard NIC.  The DSL modem is not attached to this connection.

But here is the reading:   speed/duplex settings    =    Full autonegotiation

Other options available:  Autonegotiate for 1000FD

                                             Autonegotiate for   100FD

                                             Autonegotiate for   100HD

                                             Autonegotiate for     10FD

                                             Autonegotitae for     10HD

                                                    Force  10 Full Duplex

                                                    Force  10 Half Duplex

                                                    Force 100 Full Duplex

                                                    Force  100 Half Duplex

                                                         Full Autonegotiation

The 'DLS connection' is linked to a PCI Netgear NIC.

Properties / connection speed = Autosense

It has the options of 100Base - Tx

                                     100Base - Tx full duplex

                                       10Base - Tx

                                       10Base - Tx full duples

                                  Autosense

Hope this is anwers your question?

I also must apologize...was ill.

Well, I changed the settings on the DSL NIC to 100Base Tx and a recent Speed Test Analysis now reads:

------ Web100 Detailed Analysis ------
Client Receive Window detected at 1045440 bytes.
Cable modem/DSL/T1 link found.
Link set to Full Duplex mode
Information: throughput is limited by other network traffic.
Good network cable(s) found
Normal duplex operation found.

So thank you for you solution! This is back to normal operation.
