Battery Backup only necessary for landline?

Is the 12v battery in the ont box only for landline? If I remove the battery, will I still have internet?

Yes. It is just for voice backup in a power outage. If you take it out there will be no issue with the internet. It might start to beep when you take out the battery. 

You can also call Verizon to ask them to upgrade you to a power adapter to take care of the beeping.
