Can I use existing telephone jacks cable for upgrade to Fios Internet and phone?

I am currently using DSL for phone and internet and want to upgrade to Fios.  I already have phone jacks wired throughout my house and my DSL modem and router are connected to one of these phone jacks...as well as my phone.  Will I be able to use these cables if I upgrade to Fios internet and phone, or will I have to have Coaxial cable installed throughout my house?  (I do not use cable TV)

I THINK you can use the phone lines for phones.  But definitely not for internet.  You will need to either run cables (coax or ethernet), or use wireless.  V supplies a wireless router with the installation.  If you're never going to use FIOS TV, then you might want to use CAT5 from the FIOS terminal to the router, though RG6 cable is 'standard'.

You might get better info asking on the FIOS forum.

PS: I believe they install the Optical terminal where your current phone lines come into the house.  They then connect your house phone line to the terminal. The installer will then run cable (RG6 or CAT5) to wherever you want the router installed.

FiOS telephone service just moves the digital conversion from the Central Office out to your home, in the Optical Network Terminator or ONT. From the ONT to your in home telephone wiring, it is Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS). So for telephone service, your existing telephone wiring would be used. The telephone signals coming out of the ONT are identical to what used to come in on the copper pair.

Internet Service in generally cannot be provided over the telephone wiring. That needs to be either ethernet cabling, or Coaxial Cable. The FiOS suppled Router has 4 ports plus Wireless Access, and can also support up to 6 devices (including Set Top Boxes) via Coax. So anywhere you have Coax is a potential Ethernet access point. The bad news is that to connect via Coax you will need a MOCA Bridge to convert the signal from standard Ethernet to MOCA signaling. MOCA bridges are relative expensive however (They are also pretty fast, often north of 200mbps).

Coax to the Router is required if you have Television Service. The STB's obtain Guide Information, Software updates,  and Video on Demand Services via the Internet, and the Router provides the link.  If you are going to have FiOS Television, the connection from the ONT to the Router MUST BE COAX.

The splitters needed by FiOS are a higher quality than the Cable Company uses because MOCA runs at frequencies well above those normally used in Cable systems. The splitter also needs to be two way.
