Got a new Actiontec brand modem from VZ recently and they stated that we didn't need the Apple modem add-on that we had been using. Ever since we stopped using the Apple modem, we cannot get WIFi service when we are more than 30 feet from the Actiontec. More specifically this happens when trying to access the internet with Apple I-phones. Any suggestions?
Typically in cases like these, I'd say try adjusting the orientiation or location of the router. Since the Apple and ActionTec very likely use different radios and antenna designs, one router may work better in another location in comparison to where it is now. If the router happens to be in a corner or on the floor, it's not going to deliver as good of a signal to the rest of the house. The ActionTec gateway nay have come included with a stand, which may help the router perform better based on how it's internal antennas are oriented.
You may also want to log into the ActionTec router at http://192.168.1.1/ and change the Wireless channel to see if the problem could be due to Interference. Using Channels 1, 6, and 11 are preferred but you can use the intermediate channels if they give you better results. The ActionTec will have a whole section in the admin interface for changing the Wireless settings and channels.
By default the ActionTec will use the following login credentials:
admin/password
admin/admin
admin/Router's Serial Number
