Congestion

I get great speed during the day. I get crap at night. I can't do a **bleep** thing at night.

A verizon tech came to the house. Ran his own line and still had problems. He convinced someone in the office that there was an equipment problem, and the next day we were switched to a new piece of equipment (not something local to my house, I'm assuming in some verizon closet of equipment). And it is still crap. it is slightly better crap, but still not enough bandwidth to do much of anything.

I was told that was the best they could do. Maybe they would put in some new equipment, but for now I was on the "best".

I'm getting better upload (.6) than download speeds (0.5). I can't upgrade to FIOS as it isn't offered in my area.

I used to have good service, but then it went to crap. I asked why, and was told more people in my area bought verizon internet, so there is congestion.

I feel like the people who tried to help me really tried. I'm glad the tech confirmed that the problem wasn't on my end. He worked really hard to eliminate any possibility the problem was on my end.

I've been with Verizon for 11 years, and I've been very happy for most of it. I really don't want to switch to another provider and lose my email address, and deal with the hassle, but I feel like I've been told there is no solution, and no solution is on the horizon.

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Remove that line. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.

Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?

#3 If you don't know how to get that info:

a) What is the brand and model of your modem?

b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

My internet is fast and enjoyable at the moment. so I'll post one traceroute from now, and I'll do another when it is bad for comparison.

traceroute to (private), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

Doesn't look like this traceroute info is of much use. I'm guessing the helpful bit is in the ****. As there isn't much difference in the outputs, but my internet is again too slow to do anything. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone from Verizon able to get my service improved??
