I had high speed internet installed at my home yesterday. My question is this: Can I take my modem from room to room, plug it in to different phone jacks, and still be able to access the internet? Or does my modem have to stay plugged into the same phone jack that it was originally connected to yesterday?
You can move it to any phone jack.
The only time you would encounter a problem is if someone has rewired (miswired) the jack you want to use.
The only other problem you would run into, including what Walt mentioned, would be if you have a homerun installed by Verizon. This results in just one jack being usable for DSL. You'd be doing some re-wiring to move the homerun to another jack in your home.
But go ahead and move the modem if you need to. The worst that can happen is the modem won't sync, and you'll have to try another jack or put it back on the original jack.
