Typically when it rains, I lose my DSL connection. I have come to expect it. But over the last two weeks my DSL has been having issues in perfect weather. What will happen is that I will be streaming music on my Echo and suddenly, the streaming will stop, or I will be streaming a prime movie ot a movie from Hulu and it will stop. I check my computer to find my DSL connection has 1000ms latency, the download speed has plummet to ,20 mbps. I have unplugged my modem - no effect. I call technical support and by the time I get to a higher level support 40 min or so, everything is back to normal. If it were my modem, I would think rebooting would resolve the issue, but it does not. The problem just fixes itself. This is now happening several times a day. I have spent probably over 8 hours on the phone with support. Any one have any ideas.
The problem only started 2 weeks ago in good weather. Because of a name change I had to disconnect and reconnect the account. I was told that that might fixed the issue. I have been with verizon since they split from AT&T. I believe very strongly in loyality and really do not want to go with a different company. I in fact wanted to add HBO NOW to my service but can not because I can not reliably stream.
A major problem is that verizon only supports windows and mac devices that are directly connected to the modem. I have only wireless tablets and a chromebook. They will not escalate the problem until I get a PC with windows or a Mac, and that just is not possible.
Don't get me wrong. I am paying for enhanced DSL - 1-3 mbps - and I usually have 63 ms letancy 1.80 download - and that is perfectly fine for my needs. So when the service is working - it fits me very well.
Any advice, I have an actiontec ?784 modem which as I said has worked great until a couple of weeks ago, except duing rain.
